My name is Amber Knutson and I am a second year student in the Journalism and Mass Communication graduate program. I came to ISU after finishing up course work for a Master's degree in English (still working on the thesis) and working for a website developing company. Although I considered pursuing a doctorate in English, I realized that I wanted to work in a field with a bit more action. I, thus, chose the JLMC program. My end goal after this program is to work as an editor for a literary magazine or publishing company.

My name is Sicong(Bill) Zhao, and I'm a rookie in Journalism and Mass Communication who is in his first year of this major. My undergraduate major is Software Engineering and I'm a chinese, so both English and Major is difficult to me. But I have confidence that I will be able to finally make it after experiencing some hardwork as well as the help from Dr.Dimitrova and my dear classmates. My career goal is to be a host or producer of political, historical,or militay documentaries, or a news analyst. With the blooming development of new communicational technologies and methods, I think it's neccessary for every Journalism practitioners to learn how new technologies deeply influence our society.

My name is Rebecca Peterson. I teach English at Ellsworth Community College. I commute from Iowa Falls. My undergrad was in journalism and I've written for a newspaper and a radio station (advertising). I started teaching by chance but discovered I love it...and the hours and pay are much more family friendly. I've taken education, English, and JLMC courses at ISU and can't seem to leave the Greenlee School. All of my JLMC classes have been both fascinating and challenging. I look forward to another!

My name is Raeann Ritland, and I commute from Zearing, Iowa. I received my undergraduate degree in secondary English Education from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. I chose to switch paths and pursue a master’s in Journalism and Mass Communication because of my writing minor. Two classes I took while at Wartburg (Journalism and Graphic Design) really sparked my interest, and I didn’t want to give them up in order to teach full time. Thus, I came to Iowa State. The choice allowed me to stay close to home where I still work at a local daycare (infant-4th grade) and substitute teach (K-12) in my old school. I also work as an RA for Dr. Dahlstrom and a TA for Dr. Geske. My ultimate career goal is yet undecided. I still love teaching and literature, so I may return to that. Or, I may pursue a career in Mass Communication.

I really am enjoying learning more about everyone in the class! I've been teaching this class since Fall 2003 and it is different each time.

Just a bit about me: I grew up in Bulgaria, came to the U.S. for grad school and moved to Iowa from Florida after getting my Ph.D. It was little rough the first winter but now I feel like an Iowan :) I like the ISU community and the family-friendly hours that Rebecca mentioned...

Look forward to a great semester!

I'm Sarah Wiley and I am first year student to the program. I am from the Chicago suburbs. I completed my BA and MA in Southeast Asian History at Northern Illinois University. Iowa State's journalism program has a great professional reputation, hence why I am here. After graduation I am hoping to pursue a career in science communication, perhaps more specifically science and technology policy development in lesser developed countries.

My name is Aimee Burch and I'm from Springfield, Illinois. I came to ISU after completing my Bachelor's degree in Communication with a minor in Political Science from the University of Illinois-Springfield. I am now in my second year of graduate study in Journalism and Mass Communication. I'm not entirely sure what I would like to do once I complete my coursework here. I currently work as a graduate assistant in the Greenlee School for Dr. Bugeja, as well as serve as the assistant news editor for online down at the Iowa State Daily. Both are jobs I really enjoy, so I may end up teaching or working as an online administrator for a publication in the future.

Hey Aimee I'm from the Springfield, IL area also. A long time ago but I graduated from Virden High School, about 25 miles south of Springfield. All my family still lives in the area so I visit frequently. On another note, can someone tell me how to reply to an individual post? Is it like a threaded discussion? I don't see replies anywhere so apparently I need more info about our site. Help is appreciated :)

My name is Di Pei and I am from China. I am a student of Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication and will be studying Journalism for the following two years to pursue my master degree. My arrival in Ames is doubtless a big turn in my life. I wanted to extend my scope of reading. My particular interests are how new media impacts politics and how media reflects the development of American Chinese. I like reading anything that caught my interest. I also like traveling and exploring. Traveling helps me learn things that I can't get from books. I enjoy yoga and walking in a serene and beautiful park. I have been to Big Creek State Park a few times which has become one of my favorite parks. My goal of learning Journalism is to promote mutual understanding among people, and help achieve the goal of living peacefully together. I believe that my background as well as my living experiences in both China and the US will help me form a unique angle toward this area and help me reach my life goal.
